Michael vick’s former dog victims memorialized at his former property

What Michael Vick did almost a decade ago is still a bitter taste on the tongues of those who speak of his heinous crimes. Running an illegal dog ring on this Virginia property so that he could fight dogs, make money and enjoy the &lsquo-sport&rsquo- was something that forever changed his life for the worse. He lost his career, he lost his property and he spent time in jail. Now he spends time advocating for animal abuse, but it&rsquo-s his former property in Virginia that&rsquo-s making news today. Nearly 15-acres have been turned into a sanctuary for a nonprofit organization called Dogs Deserve Better. The area is now home to dogs that have been kept in horrible situations, such as dog fighting rings, abusive homes and lives where they were not appreciated and well cared for.

This past weekend, the rescue helped organize an event in which 51 Dogwood trees were planted in honor of each of the dogs that was a victim of Vick&rsquo-s. Some of the dogs died before they could be adopted, and others have been given second chances with loving homes only to die later on. The families of these dogs showed up to help plant the trees and honor their fallen heroes, and many dogs that were seized from the ring as mere puppies back in 2007 were also there with their owners to pay tribute to the lives lost at Vick&rsquo-s hands. Beautiful and touching, there were no dry eyes during this tribute to these animals forced to live in the most inhumane conditions imaginable.
