Former bait dog saved just in time needs a forever home

Meet Emily. She is a gorgeous Staffordshire Bull Terrier with a big heart and a happy smile she&rsquo-s always happy to give when she sees you coming (especially if she sees you coming with her favorite treat). She is a dog that is always happy to have a friend nearby. She is affectionate and sweet, warm and very loving with those she loves. However, her foster mother says that Emily is a completely different dog today than the dog she received much earlier this year. Emily was not always a happy dog, and she did not trust humans for a long time. We don&rsquo-t know much about Emily&rsquo-s history, but we do know a little.

This gorgeous dog was found wandering the streets, injured and unhappy back in March in a Philadelphia neighborhood. Rescuers immediately recognized her personality and her wounds as those consistent with lifelong bait dogs used in illegal fighting rings. She was taken to a vet, treated, and placed in a foster home that specializes in socializing dogs and making them perfect for a new family to eventually adopt.

It was a long road for Emily, who was not happy to be around people at first. She did not trust them, she did not want to be near them and she was very afraid. It&rsquo-s only natural since the dog&rsquo-s teeth had been pulled or filed, common with bait dogs that fighters don&rsquo-t want defending themselves, she&rsquo-d had at least one litter of puppies, and she was injured in many ways.

Today, however, she is a happy, friendly dog with an outgoing personality and a love for humans she has developed after learning to trust that they&rsquo-re not all bad. She is now ready for her forever home, and she is hoping that she gets one for the holidays. We love Emily because she is a perfect example that fight dogs do change.
