Meet harvey milk, the formerly feral half-eared prince
Harvey Milk is a Monday Miracle with a regal pedigree. Followers of his burgeoning Instagram account know this trooper as the “half-eared prince” — and his stormy journey through life is certainly befitting of a great monarch who’s surmounted the odds to take his place on a warm throne, possibly by a radiator.
Here’s how Harvey did it.
At first, Harvey was going about his business as a presumably happy-go-lucky and fully functioning feral feline for five years. (Hey, sometimes cats need a little over-the-top alliteration, right?)
Then he was discovered struggling with a limp and what appeared to be the makings of a frostbite situation. At that point he was brought to a shelter — although his happy ending took a while to manifest itself.
After being seen by a vet, Harvey (or Nate as he was unceremoniously named at that point) was officially diagnosed with frostbite on his ears, as well as with feline viral rhinotracheitis — a form of the ever-popular feline herpes that seems to affect most strays.
One of Harvey’s back legs was also discovered to be paw-less — a situation the vet suggested he was born with.
Despite realizing that he’d lived “a rough life,” Harvey thought his situation was about to take a turn for the better when he was adopted out of the shelter after a couple of months.
Unfortunately, he was returned within a week.
After entering the foster system, Harvey eventually found his way to his forever home. It’s a setup whose hardship he described on his Instagram account: “All I have to worry about now is beating up paper bags, waking my humans at 6 a.m. for food, and capturing this crazy red dot that comes around.”
Despite his years scrapping on the streets, it seems that Harvey’s a trusting and loving cat at heart. He’s said to be a playful kitty who “purrs almost constantly” and is “very sweet” when it comes to giving out head bonks.
Now that he’s happily settled into his forever home, Harvey has developed a champion’s view on life’s pesky ups and downs. “The frostbite sucked but now I have really cute ears that don’t seem to bother me,” he says, before signing off with a message for the ages: “Rescues are seriously the best, most loving things ever.”
