This cat shows us she can swim — if she has to

Summer’s almost here, and we can’t help thinking of sunshine and swimming. We usually think of dogs as summertime pets, but we’ve seen a couple of cool cats who don’t mind beating the heat with a dip in the water.

Recently we met Pikachu the Traveling Cat, who happily waded in after his human at Elephant Butte Lake in New Mexico. Pretty impressive, and pretty darn cute.

Here’s another fearless feline who doesn’t want to be left on land. Watching his humans paddle along, this kitty can’t stand to see how much fun they’re having, so she coils up and jumps from the bank, and she almost makes it into the boat. Amazing!

Domestic cats usually hate water, but their big-cat cousin, the tiger, is an adept, strong swimmer. Tigers have even been known to carry prey through rivers. So maybe this little kitty-paddler felt a call of the wild that she couldn’t resist.
