Cats mark their territory
Although we like to think kitty?s face-rubbing is sweetly affectionate, it?s also her way of leaving her personal perfume on stuff she owns (including you). Lions scent-mark their own particular corner of the African plains to let other would-be hunters know that the antelopes there are spoken for, and by charmingly smooshing her face against your leg, your cat is actually marking you as her food supply and minion. No other cats are permitted to look at you. (If your cat was your boyfriend, you?d be asking for a restraining order right about now.)
Can we Princesses really lay claim to free-willed humans? We all know the trick of ?accidentally? spilling perfume onto a man?s jacket to remind him of us when we?re not there ? and make sure any rival females get a whiff of it too. However, you?ll notice that Sweetie and Coco don?t leave their sparkly collars or hairbrushes in the alley where that hot tom cat lives, nor do they post all over his Facebook. (Well, have you ever seen a cat do this? I rest my case.) Kitties are all about dignity and poise, not desperation.
But when it comes to your career (ie your ?hunting?), by all means make sure everyone knows where your turf begins and ends. Sneak into the meeting room early and leave your jacket over the back of the best seat, leave stationery labelled with your name all over the office, and make sure nobody gets their claws into your clients. Just don?t pee everywhere (unless it?s a last resort).
