How to choose quality irish setter breeders and avoid puppy mills

Some of the most beautiful dogs on earth are working dogs. These intelligent and strong animals are also very pleasing to the eye. One of these dogs, the Irish Setter has been around for a very long time. So you think finding a quality Irish Setter Breeders would be easy. But in some cases that simply isn&rsquo-t how it works out. The main problem with finding a quality breeder is the fact that many people don&rsquo-t understand the animal they are producing. This is a popular breed of dog and with its fame comes money for those who produce these lovely dogs. This is when the problems start and the animals are the ones who suffer.

Massive breeding operations are setup to produce hundreds of puppies a year, are the biggest culprits. Not only do they not know very much about the animals they are producing, they also don&rsquo-t care for the animals health. Puppies from these operations may pass as the AKC standard, but their genetics and overall health are very poor. The best way to avoid what the world now refers to as puppy mills, is to get to know the person you are dealing with. Someone that produces quality animals, will gladly let you into their homes so that you can hand pick your puppy. This hands on approach is your best bet at getting a strong and healthy pup to call your own.

You can easily set up an appointment to view your future pet, by giving the breeder a call and expressing why you want to see where and how their puppies are raised. If the person on the other end of the phone doesn&rsquo-t extend an invitation, then it&rsquo-s time to move on to someone else.

Once you arrive at their facilities, look at how the animals are housed. If they are being kept inside of the home this is a really good sign. This is an indication that your future dog has been well kept and properly socialized. If the animals are kept in tiny cages and there are lots of them, it&rsquo-s a good chance you have stumbled onto a puppy mill operation.

By doing your homework and being very hands on, you can have a healthy and strong dog to call your very own.
