Why spoiling your dog is counter-productive
If you are a dog lover (and you must be because you are here), you probably want to spoil your dog. It makes sense. We love our pets so much, and we want to give them the happiest and most fulfilling lives we possibly can. We want to make them feel loved and cared for and important. Thing is, spoiling your dog only works against the dog. I know that may sound strange, but if you read the following article, it will make way more sense. Remember, you can be sweet and generous, but spoiling your dog is one step too far.
If you baby your dog, it is an insult to your dog. Remember, at the heart of it, this was once a wild animal. Also, understand how packs work with Wolves to get an even better understanding. There ARE rules. There ARE things the dogs need to do for themselves. A huge part of their instincts are pushed away by us, which is not a terrible thing. The terrible part comes from the fact that doing all that and fawning over the dog takes away from the time the dog can be a dog. A dog wants and needs discipline and structure. To fawn over the dog too much takes away from their ability to do that. Put them out in the yard. Let them run. Above all else, remember to let them be dogs. They are not children, and people who fawn over them and treat them like the child they never had only do an injustice to the dogs. Love the dog unconditionally, but always remember, it is a dog. It is an animal, and you need to allow it to be one of those.
Okay, you can still kind of spoil your dog, just don&rsquo-t over do it. Let a dog be a dog, first and foremost.
