Labs top the american kennel club 2014 popular list

Once again the Labrador Retrievers managed to top the American Kennel Club 2014 popular list of dogs. This is the 24th year of the lab&rsquo-s reign as the number one breed in America. In her statement, Vice President of AKC Gina DiNardo said &ldquo-The lab truly is America&rsquo-s dog.&rdquo- German shepherds, golden retrievers, bulldogs and beagles completed the five list of AKC&rsquo-s 2014 list. The bulldog managed to move up one spot on this year&rsquo-s list at number 4. This is because the breed is easy to take care of, requires minimal exercise and does really well with kids. The beagles successfully got a lot of attention as well and the breed is looking good being fifth on the list.

For the first time in almost 100 years, the French bulldogs moved into the top ten, at the ninth spot, according to the American Kennel Club. The Rottweillers managed to stay in the top ten while the Dachshunds fell off to number 11 from number 10 last year.

Labrador retrievers have managed to hold on to its number 1 spot and the breed is currently holding the longest reign record. The Poodles&rsquo- decades-old record was broken by the labs in 2013.

Below is the AKC&rsquo-s 2014 top ten list of the Most Popular Dogs in the United States:

  1. Labrador Retrievers
  2. German Shepherd
  3. Golden Retriever
  4. Bulldog
  5. Beagle
  6. Yorkshire Terrier
  7. Poodle
  8. Boxer
  9. French Bulldog
  10. Rottweiler

An AKC spokeswoman told ABC News that there popular list is based on the number of dogs from each breed that are registered with the club.

Labrador retrievers are great family dogs not just because of their good temperament. They are also very active, friendly and outgoing dogs. In addition, this dog breed is also beautiful and just the right size, not too big and not too small but muscular. Labs are also noted for having very expressive characters. When you add all of these good traits it makes the lab a perfect pooch to have.

I think labs will continue to top the list for a long time. Congrats to the Labrador retriever for once again being the king and queen of the U.S. dog kingdom!
