What if cats starred in your favorite tv shows?

Mad Men

may have ended several weeks ago, but I’m still not over the loss of Don Draper, nor have I accepted the fact that his decades of B.S. and lies taught him nothing — absolutely nothing! Don may have little going for him other than his ability to manipulate you while looking really, really good in a suit, but somehow that was enough to keep me rooting for him all these years.

Fortunately, any time I want to revisit SC&P, I can hitch a ride to 1965 with this feline Mad Men parody — and if I’m feeling especially distracted, I can check out cat-studded versions of some of my other favorite shows as well.

1. Mad Men

A fine imitation of the show’s memorable opening sequence, this “Meow Men Petody” by the Pet Collective has it all. The show’s palpable sense of restlessness, futility, and ennui is illustrated by the silhouette of a fluffy kitty in free fall, zipping past billboards of other, prettier kitties before landing on a couch in repose. Brilliant touch: The inspirational poster in the cat’s office features a human dude clinging to a tree branch.

2. 1,000 Cats

Brett Gelman, who played that hippie in the Mad Men finale, wrote and starred in a 17-minute one-man musical about cats. Yes, it’s as crazy as it sounds- Gelman says the only venue that would do 1,000 Cats justice is “the Vatican,” adding that “1,000 Cats doesn’t exist, while at the same time, 1,000 Cats is the only thing that exists.” Hmm. Let that one sink in for a minute.

3. Downton Abbey

Wearing a frilly red dress, Lady Tabby will remind you that, actually, she’s no lady. True to its source material, “Downton Tabby” is rife with scandal, intrigue, musclebound action figures, and men in porkpie hats. Oh, you say there were no action figures in the original? Well, maybe there should have been.

4. Orange Is the New Black

Another adorable parody by the Pet Collective, “Tabby is the New Cat” stars Piper Catman as a drug money-smuggling kitten who is sentenced to nine lives in prison, where she’s forced to fix a laser pointer — without thumbs!

5. Game of Thrones

Here’s a cat named Arya meowing the opening to George R.R. Martin’s twisted saga. For some reason, I don’t suppose Cersei would approve — but given a little wine, I imagine Tyrion would be all in.

About Angela: This not-crazy-at-all cat lady loves to lint-roll her favorite dress and go out dancing. She also frequents the gym, the vegan coffee joint, and the warm patch of sunlight on the living room floor. She enjoys a good cat rescue story about kindness and decency overcoming the odds, and she’s an enthusiastic recipient of headbutts and purrs from her two cats, Bubba Lee Kinsey and Phoenix.
