Videos we love: cats reacting to riding in cars

My cats have mixed feelings about riding in cars. Phoenix, my calico girl, hates it- she’ll cower in her kitty carrier the whole time and howl like the world is ending. My gray tabby, Bubba Lee Kinsey, is a bit more mellow about the whole experience. I’ve driven across town with him sitting calmly on my lap — and one time I even went through the Starbucks drive-through with him in tow. He gave the barista quite a shock when she handed me my drink.

While most cats aren’t ideal companions for those sunny days when you want to cruise with the windows down and the stereo blaring, some of the cats in these videos are will give your dog a run for her money. As for the others? Well, the car ride obviously wasn’t the apocalypse — although you’d never know it by listening to them.

1. Kitty’s first car ride

This cat’s reaction is somewhere between terrified and awestruck, his face mirroring a Hollywood actor sticking his head out the top of a limo while cruising down the glittering Vegas strip in a rom-com. He looks like he loves it while simultaneously being aware of the horrors that await.

2. If the dog can do it, so can I!

When his humans take him for a ride on a rainy day, this pretty white kitty realizes he loves sticking his face out the window and feeling the wind on his face. Extra awesome: At a stop sign, kitty throws mad shade at a dog walking down the sidewalk.

3. Daredevil cat

This orange-striped adrenaline junkie isn’t happy just chilling on the passenger seat, held back from his true potential by the seatbelt. He’s more comfortable using the hood of the car as his own personal surfboard, or possibly living out his fantasy as a hood ornament.

4. Are we there yet?

Tux the cat is on his way home from the vet, and he is not terribly jazzed about the trip. I recommend turning the volume up before watching this video so all of your coworkers can hear it. Think of it as a very subtle, passive-aggressive way to stick it to the man.

5. The worst thing ever

Casey and Sassy are just going to get their nails groomed, but their reaction to this car ride suggests they doubt they’ll make it home alive.
