Boxer Pitbull Mix Appearance

Physique: Bullboxers have a unique physique that combines the body width and large heads of Pit Bulls/Bulldogs with the long legs and strong chests that Boxers usually have.

Every Bulloxer I have met displays these traits (although I have admittedly only met a handful).”

Colors: Bulloxers come in all sorts of colors, most common of which are black, brown, tan and yellow.

Height & Weight: The Bullboxer Pit is a large dog that’s usually 20-26 (sometimes even 27) inches tall and usually weighs 50-80 pounds.

Obviously, females of this cross breed will be somewhat smaller than males in general.

Coat: The Bullboxer Pit’s coat is usually short, smooth and shiny that doesn’t require that much maintenance to keep in good shape.

Boxer Pitbull Mix Temperament & Character

Upon purchasing an American Bullboxer from a breeder, it’s rarely the case that the dog is 50 American Pit Bull Terrier and 50 Boxer.

You’re more likely to get a combination that’s more inclined towards one parent than the other.

However, rest assured that no matter what the percentages, the dog is still a Boxer Pitbull mix.

If you want to make sure what percentages you’re getting, ask for specific details from your breeder. Any quality breeder should be able to show you these details and many more.

This is very important because, when it comes to dog temperaments, percentages have a lot to do with cross breeds and make it much easier to be able to predict how the puppy will grow up to behave.

However, and with that being said, know that no two dogs are the same and this is all predictions at best.

No one can be able to determine exactly what characteristics a dog will grow up to exhibit and what temperament they will have. We can only estimate.

Exercise: The Boxer Pitbull mix is a strong dog with an excellent physique which needs a whole lot of exercise on a daily basis to maintain its form and remain healthy.

This dog is a very energetic dog that seems to always be hyper and wants to keep on moving around.

This is an excellent choice for a dog if you have kids, as its energy, friendliness and affection will prove to be an excellent mutually beneficial relationship to all sides.

Anything from walking in the dog park, jogging around the neighborhood to playing Frisbee in the back-yard will make the Boxer Pitbull mix a very happy dog.

Intelligence: The Boxer Pitbull mix is a very intelligent dog, one of the most intelligent dogs in the world actually.

As you’ll notice that they tend to learn things like new tricks and commands like “sit”, “stay”, “come” and “go potty” real fast, on condition that they are being taught these tricks/commands by a competent person that knows how to properly communicate messages during training sessions.

Giving them the intellectual exercise they need on a daily basis is just as important as giving them physical exercise every day.

So make sure you have a whole lot of interactive toys your Boxer Pitbull mix can play around with when you’re not around!

Training: Despite its high intelligence levels, training the Boxer Pitbull mix isn’t exactly the easiest task in the world.

Just know that it’s going to take a tiny bit of an extra effort on your part than would be the case with other dog breeds or mixes require, especially if it hasn’t been properly trained at a young age.

The most important thing is that you stick through with training and remain consistent.

One of the most important reasons you want to train this dog at a young age is because they have the potential to grow up to become excessive chewers, meaning anything like shoes, cushions, and whatever else they can get their hands (or teeth) on is a target.

Friendliness: Despite the fact that The Bullboxer is a very friendly dog when its owners and family members are around, the same doesn’t exactly hold true when it comes to other animals and strangers when not properly socialized at a young age.

Now, I’m not saying that the Bullboxer is necessarily aggressive towards other animals or strangers, but it’ll take proper training and socialization from a young age to get this dog to properly behave around other family pets, animals and strangers it comes across.

If the Boxer Pitbull mix was not properly socialized and trained to act properly in such situations at a young age, you’re most likely going to come across some problems.

However, a properly socialized Boxer Pitbull mix will grow up to show unconditional love to other animals and extreme friendliness to every new person they meet.

Both ways, it’s better for you to stay safe and supervise any contact that happens between this dog and young children that it might not be very familiar with yet.

Boxer Pitbull Mix Health Issues

When buying a Pitbull Boxer Mix, there’s a possibility that it could suffer from some of the health issues its parent breeds are known to suffer from, although you shouldn’t really be worrying about this as it’s really not that common.

So, just for the sake of making things clear, some of the most common health issues that Pitbull Boxer mix’s are known to be more prone to suffering from than other dogs are:

Skin problems
Eye problems

Again, don’t look too much into this as the majority of Bullboxer Pits go on to lead a very healthy life if the right circumstances are provided, so you don’t need to worry too much about this.

As for how long Bullboxer Pits live, their life expectancy ranges from 10-13 years.

Boxer Pitbull Mix Care

As far as grooming is concerned, the Bullboxer Pit doesn’t need a whole lot of time and dedication to keep it well maintained.

The Bullboxer Pit is not an excessive shedder, which means you should be fine brushing its hair about once a week to keep its coat intact.

As for bathes, you’re good to go bathing the Bullboxer Pit with the standard frequency of once a month using specialized dog shampoo.

And then you have the other grooming needs which include cleaning its ears, brushing its teeth and cutting her nails, all of which can be done by a professional dog groomer if you feel like you’re not up to the chore to do it yourself (except for brushing its teeth part, you’re going to be paying the groomer a whole lot of visits a week if you delegate that chore to them all the time!).

Boxer Pitbull Mix Cost

For a new Bullboxer Pit puppy, you can expect to pay something between $500-$800. If you choose to adopt a Bullboxer Pit puppy from a shelter, that fee will be something around $200 instead.

As for the initial costs you need to get for the Bullboxer Pit puppy, which include things like spaying and neutering, micro chipping, basic blood tests, flea and tick medication and supplies, expect to pay an additional $500.

From there on, you can expect to invest $1000 on your Bullboxer Pit every year on premium dog food and treats, toys, insurance and veterinary bills.

Who Is The Boxer Pitbull Mix For?

First off, an American Bullboxer may not be the best of choices to go with if you have young kids at home.

Unless the American Bullboxer was properly trained and socialized at a young age, chances are that you might run into some problems, and that’s the last thing you want happening when kids are involved.

Also, and given the fact that the Bullboxer needs great amounts of exercise on a daily basis to stay sane, it might not be the best option for you to go with if you don’t have that much time to spend giving it the exercise it needs or can’t properly delegate that chore to someone else who is competent enough to get the job done.

And, with that being said, even if you do have ample time to spend with this dog in order to exercise it or can properly delegate that job to someone else, you’re best off not getting a Bullboxer if you plan to have it live in an apartment or small house which doesn’t have a yard for this dog to spend the majority of its time in.

The Bullboxer needs large spaces to stay happy.

Finally, if you live somewhere which is known to have weather conditions on either side of the extremes, do not get a Bullboxer. This dog needs a moderate climate to strive in and does not do very well in places that can get very hot or cold.
