7 Last-minute gifts for the cat-loving procrastinator

You planned to get your holiday shopping done early this year, promising yourself those gifts would be wrapped and under the tree in time for you to admire your handiwork. In no way would you spend another Christmas Eve at the drugstore at 10 p.m., desperately trying to find something to throw in a bag to give your sister.

Ah, but here we are — in the homestretch of the holidays. Funny how it sneaks up on you, isn’t it? And we know you totally haven’t done any of your shopping, so here are a few easy-to-find, last-minute gifts you can grab to appease the cat lover on your list. Jot down your favorites and get moving — you’re running out of time.

1. Chicken Soup for the Soul

Don’t deny it: You secretly love those Chicken Soup for the Soul books that emotionally manipulate you into crying into your Ben & Jerry’s before you’ve even had the chance to process what you’re reading — but you’d never actually buy one for yourself. Now’s your chance to give someone else some guilty pleasure with Chicken Soup for the Soul: I Can’t Believe My Cat Did That!

2. Cat t-shirts

Cat shirts are all the rage right now, so you can find a plentiful selection at trendy retailer Forever 21. The one we’d personally like to unwrap is the “Meowzilla” muscle tee, which features a giant tabby kitten wreaking havoc in the most adorable way possible.

3. Hello Kitty wine

As if wine weren’t a good enough last-minute gift on its own, this bottle comes adorned with Hello Kitty’s face and a stylized glass heart. The pale pink, sparkling wine is semi-sweet with hints of almonds, strawberries, amaretto, and nougat. Slap a bow on it, and you’ve got yourself a totally legit present. Cheers to that!

4. Cat socks

Here’s one especially for the cat guys. Truth: There’s nothing better than going to work on Monday morning dressed from head to toe as a serious business professional, but rocking some truly rad cat trouser socks that peek out every time you cross your legs.

5. Cat earmuffs

And here’s one for the cat-loving kid (or an adult with a really small head). These cat-ear earmuffs will make going out in the cold suck a little less.

6. Stuffed Grumpy Cat

We have mixed feelings about the over-commercialization of the one and only Grumpy Cat, whose resting bitch face is unparalleled among any species. But this stuffed version of the Internet celebri-kitty is cute enough to make anyone smile on Christmas morning.

7. Donate to a shelter

For the holidays, many shelters will allow you to make a donation in someone else’s name — and they’ll even print a pretty little certificate to give your friend or family member, showing them the good deed done in their honor. (Side note: Unless someone is expecting it, giving a cat or kitten as a gift is NOT a good idea.)

Not only does a donation make everyone feel good about themselves, it also helps homeless cats get the love and care they need — and isn’t that what the season is all about?
