Does your cat have “midnight madness?” try a kitty treadmill!

We know it when we see it, and it almost certainly spells doom.

The Midnight Madness. It occurs most often in the wee hours of the morning, arousing you from your slumber when you really could use those three more hours of sleep before your alarm sounds. But it’s been known to strike at other times of day. The signs are easy to identify: enlarged pupils, swishy tail, twitchy ears. Yet the madness sometimes erupts without any warning. Once the Madness has hold of our cats, they are compelled to swat at invisible flies, run laps around the living room, claw up the curtains with the burning passion of 10,000 suns, and knock over all the potted house plants.

That’s why it’s imperative to play with your kitties. As fierce, efficient hunters, cats have lots of energy to expend, and, just like dogs, cats need a release in order to remain happy and healthy.

But let’s say your cat has more bounding energy than you can handle, what can you do?

Get an exercise wheel, of course! Bonus: watching a cat run in an infinite loop is really mesmerizing.

Only, don’t tell your kitties it’s modeled after the same exercise wheel rodents use — they’d see it as beneath them. (Also: Don’t forget to include some 1980s music for training.)
